Indwelling

On Sunday, Ed told us we have the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit if we have been born again.

Read Jesus' words in John 7:37-39. Remember a time when you have been thirsty and needed a drink of cold water. Consider how water is one of the most common of elements, and, like air, is an element we cannot live without. Realize that the Holy Spirit within you becomes a well of water, of refreshment, ever springing up, leading you into everlasting life. You have a source of satisfaction, not in the things outside yourself, but in a well within, always within, and always springing up in freshness and power, providing joy, even in times of deepest bereavement, when it can sometimes gush up with the greatest power and fullness. If you have been particularly blessed by the Spirit during a time of bereavement, share that experience. Be a stream in the desert to a fellow traveler.

Read Ezekiel 11:19-20 and Romans 8:7-9. Our carnal spirit, mimicking the attitudes of Satan, is prideful and self-serving, but God's pure and powerful Spirit can heal us and make it possible for us to keep God's laws by dissolving our proud, selfish nature. Once this process has begun, we can then begin to bear the fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). Can you afford to take the indwelling of God's Spirit for granted? Consider David's sin with Uriah the Hittite.

Ed told us the presence of the Holy Spirit in us makes our body a temple. Ralph Waldo Emerson said "Every man is carrying his own statue", meaning each of us has a body within a body. It is no secret that the flesh is the body of the soul. It is often unrecognized, however, that the soul of the saved is the body of the Spirit. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). Adrian Rogers said the soul is our personality. Your soul is the real you. With what are you feeding your soul? What kinds of words, literature, thoughts, music, radio and television programs are you bringing into the house where the Spirit is located?

Read Romans 8:13, Galatians 5:16 and Galatians 5:24. Are you at a stage where you no longer know the matchless joy of the Holy Spirit? What stopped the flow of water? Come back to the fountain drawn from Immanuel's veins. Allow the Holy Spirit to take control again.
