The Legacy of Light

Read Colossians 2:8, Psalm 111-10 and Proverbs 9:10.

Philosophy is the love and pursuit of wisdom by intellectual means. What does God say about wisdom? Discuss your own wisdom – how you achieve it and how you use it.

Read Psalm 119:105, 2 Corinthians 4:6 and 2 Peter 1:19.

God’s word is a lamp, a light that illuminates any darkness that may enter our walk, so that we may not stumble. While Paul confines light to the beginning of our conversion, Peter extends our need for light all the way to the end of God’s creative process. If we keep the light of God’s truth shining brightly ahead of us in our walk, then we will have a greater chance of avoiding deception. Discuss the strategy of being equipped with God's light, particularly in terms of encouraging our brothers and sisters in Christ.

Read 2 Corinthians 4:4-6.

What are some of the methods Satan uses to get us to hide our light? Consider these talking points: “Just live a good life; be a silent witness for God” - but consider that faith comes by hearing (Romans 10:17). Or, “You can be as God” (Genesis 3:5). Or, when we sin, he accuses us of being miserable failures. Discuss your enemy’s ways.

Read Psalm 15:1-3.

While Christians often choose Psalm 23 as their favorite, Jews will choose Psalm 15. The Hebrew of the phrase “who shall dwell” does not suggest “living in”, but rather “visiting with”, that is, being acceptable to come into God’s presence. Dealing with unfaithful people is usually painful because one never knows whether they will come through. Ask yourself “How can God trust me if I am not striving to be honest now?” Discuss your insights with others.

Read Hebrews 11:33-35.

Faith is the most powerful force on Earth, if it is practiced. The young people in our lives need to look up and see parents and adults who are looking up at a great God who has great things in store for those who love Him.Discuss how you are practicing your faith visibly and audibly before the youngsters over whom you have influence in your life.

Read Psalm 19:1-2, Romans 1: 19-20 and Job 38:4-11. Discuss the ways that wisdom, knowledge, beauty, order, and power - allqualities of God - are clearly evident from His creation. Demonstrate this concept to each other and so prepare to likewise do so to a child or children this week. Create a legacy, by God's grace.
