Taking a Back Seat To The Boys

Read Deuteronomy 6:6-9.

God is saying that everywhere the child looks he should see examples of the way of God, not only in the way the parents

work, but in the work itself. How deep is the parent's responsibility to the child? Is a parent ever off the clock in the child's rearing?

Read 1 Thessalonians 2:7 and Proverbs 31:15.

Consider that the child is conceived in, grows in, is nourished by, listens to and comes out of the woman, and the inevitable bond that creates.

To God, rearing children is a spiritual thing, because its intent, its goal is to produce children for Him. See 1 Timothy 2:15 - a tough passage indeed. Consider this meaning by substituting child rearing for child bearing - If you live the life God has given you, with faith and love and holiness and self-control, you will be successful and God will judge you fit for His kingdom. Discuss this passage as it relates to parenting.

Read Exodus 20:12.

In God's eyes and in a small child's eyes, a parent stands in the place of God Himself. Consider your ways and what your children have learned from you. How has parenting changed you, in your role as parent or child?

Every person who breathes has a mother to thank. How grateful are you for your mother? Share a story with the group you're in.
