Memorial Day 2010

Read Romans 6:23, Ephesians 2:1-3 and Colossians 2:13.

When God forgave us, He in effect gave us life because a death penalty had been hanging over us. A corpse is insensible - it cannot see, hear, smell, touch, or taste. So were we in regard to the beauty of holiness and godly spiritual life. Discuss the choice you have every day as to whether you will walk in spiritual life. How do you find that you accomplish this?

Read 2 Corinthians 4:4 and I John 5:19.

The flat uniformity of modern cemeteries has replaced the personal character of those of generations ago. Those older cemeteries prompted recollection of the dead by their very design, whereas contemporary cemeteries tempt forgetfulness of death. Compare that image with Satan's blinding of the minds of people so that they are not aware that they are already dead. Do you think that currently people are more blinded by Satan than in the past? Why or why not?

Read Revelation 6:12-17, to realize the terrible wrath of God, which is to come. A Bible scholar has commented that in the future the most valuable piece of real estate will be a hole in the ground into which one may crawl. Were you ever convicted to flee or escape God's wrath? If so, consider the terror you felt. How does that affect your love for most of the 6.5 billion people out there who are not saved?

Read John 10:9.

A crossroad is a call to change - from where we've been to where we're going; from what we're leaving behind to what we want to accomplish; from who we are to who we're becoming. Discuss the cross being the door to the narrow way, the straight way, the way of holiness.

Read 2 Corinthians 4:6-7. The darkest hour in Earth's history produced the light of the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ when He rose from the dead and conquered sin and death and Satan and Hell forever. Recall when you saw the light for the first time, when your eyes were opened to the gospel and you were saved. Share that experience with someone today.

Read Ephesians 2:4-5 and John 6:44.

The power of the ascended Christ coming into men's lives by the Holy Ghost changes them. The goodness of God in converting and saving sinners can encourage others to hope in His grace and mercy. Have you been made aware that your salvation influenced another to consider their ways? Please share that experience.
