Further Instruction From Paul: Prayer

1. What would you say is the most exciting answer to prayer that you have received?

2. The four requests:

  • God remove the deficiencies in our faith
  • God remove the obstacles to doing your will
  • God, help me to love those who are Christians and those who are not
  • God strengthen our hearts

Take some time to go through these four requests. List areas in which many new Christians might sense deficiencies in their faith. Do you think these areas would be normal for most people?

What are some of the obstacles that people face to doing God’s will?

How do we identify the people that we don’t love? What might be some of the indicators that we are building wall instead of bridges with people?

Describe “blameless” in your own words. Identify in general people who would be “blameless” and people who would not be “blameless.” What pressures cause people to step over the line? Why would we pray that “God would strengthen their hearts” in these situations?

If holiness is separation, discuss what separation from the world would look like. Why would someone need a strong heart to stay pure?

3. If we were to ask you to pray for another person in the group and use these requests as a basis, what would be your thoughts or reactions?
